Skateboard Grinding RailsCheck Out Our ALL NEW Split Back Square Grinding Rail! This new split back grinding rail is named "Split Back" because that's exactly what it is. We designed this rail as a two-piece (2 - 3-foot lengths) rail, cut in the center for compact shipping and storage purposes. Please note that this rail is designed for the younger/lighter skateboarders that don't weigh over 130 lbs. It can hold a larger person, but we prefer to keep the riders under this weight to ensure the rail stays pristine. This is designed to be a "lighter duty" grinding rail that will easily fit into the trunk of a car for transport wherever you go. This rail is unique in a few different ways. The ends are rounded for smoother mounting and dismounting, which is significantly better for beginning boarders. It is also adjustable in height, from 13.5 to 18.5 inches, in 1 inch increments, for a total of 6 different heights. This rail is a 2" square tube, with a piece that slides into each piece in the middle to hold the "split" solid for skateboarding. The Ideal - HEAVY DUTY ALL-PURPOSE GRIND
RAILS
Other Grinding Rails Don't allow yourself to be fooled by some of our competitors out there. Instead of using a heavy gauge steel as we do, they will use a lighter gauge metal and throw an extra leg or two on it so that it doesn't bend under the riders weight. That extra leg will give some people the illusion of strength and stability, but it is farther from that than you may think. Those extra legs have a tendency to cause rail instability in that it's much more difficult to locate perfectly flat concrete to set it on. With even the slightest wave in the cement, you run the risk of creating a teeter-totter for your favorite skateboarder, and that's not what you want. Grinding a rail is tough enough. Adding difficulty to the balancing aspect can simply be dangerous. Our recommendation is to avoid all grind rails that have more than two legs.
Square Grinding Rails
Our square grind rails are quite a bit easier to grind than our round rails because of the flat 2 inch surface that assists with balance. It is a bit of a slower grind than the round because that 2 inch surface causes more drag on the board, which again is another reason why it's easier to grind than our rounds. Both the round and square rails come with 3 sets of extensions, with the shortest extension on the square rail being only 4 inches high. This makes the top of the square rail only 6 inches off the ground, so it's easier to mount than the round at 10 inches off the ground. When learning to grind a rail it is important to start small while learning, and then raise the difficulty level as you gain experience and develop your skills. It is with this purpose the 7' 6" square grinding rail comes with three height extensions:
By the time you are comfortable with the 12 inch extensions, your killer grinding skills will be ready to show off at your local skate park. It will also be a good time to move up to our 7 foot round grinding rail.
Round Grinding Rails
The round grind rails are more difficult to grind than our square rails because there is less surface touching the board. In that respect, balance is more difficult, and the grind is much faster than a square rail. We recommend that the round grinding rails be considered intermediate to advanced level boarding material. The round rails come with three extensions also, but they're higher than the square rails because it's designed for a higher level of skateboarder. If you're not at the intermediate to advanced level, or you're not sure where you stand at this point, we would suggest going with the 7' 6" Square Rail. It's still a very good grind and lets you hone and fine-tune your skills, but you won't be stuck with a rail that's too difficult to use and sits in the garage gathering dust. The heights of the extensions are listed below...
Construction
Practice on stairs, grind your snowboard on a snowy park hill, or even line it up in a ramp sequence, also available here at SkateProducts.net.
NOTE: Our grinding rails come with rubber stoppers in the bases to minimize sliding on smooth concrete. Please be aware that the combination of rubber, steel, and concrete, will wear them off over time and/or use. That is to be expected and there's nothing that can be done to avoid it. The rubber stoppers cannot be replaced under the manufacturer's warranty. Without the stoppers, you can expect the rail to occasionally slide as concrete and steel tend to do that. Should you want to purchase some replacement stoppers, please contact us.
SAFETY FIRST Remember to always wear a helmet and sufficient pads to protect yourself from falls. Even the best boarders out there will occasionally fall. A severe head injury could change your life forever, so it's not worth the risk. We strongly recommend a helmet and pads for use with any and all of our equipment. We cannot be held responsible for any injuries incurred during the use of our products. |
